On the Road: CrossFit Rancho Cucamonga

My recent travels have taken me to the Inland Empire of the great state of California. Ontario, to be exact. What to do when you travel? Drop in at other CrossFit gyms, of course! After putzing around online and checking out a few boxes in the area, a coworker and I decided to WOD for the week at CrossFit Rancho Cucamonga.

CFRC’s facility is both fantastically large and clean. The WODs kicked my butt, and the coaches and members welcomed us in and helped coach us on skills immediately.

Wednesday had DUs, Thrusters and T2B. Lots of them. CFRC has the Rx jump ropes that are NOT made for speed. Needless to say, that workout wrecked my forearms.

I’ve got a nice blood blister on my hand as an evidence of the little pull-up workshop we did before busting through a 21-18-15-12-9-6 of Pull-ups & Sit ups Thursday evening. That one took me 19:53. THEN we had to cash out with 50 burpee box jumps for time. Botched my first jump EVER at 24”. OOMF. I like to think that I landed face first with grace and style. It was kind of like a swan dive. That’s how I spent Valentine’s Day. With my main man, CrossFit. I’m heels over head for him. See?

Not even 12 hours later, I went back for what ended up for a thorough butt kicking in the form of a modified “Kelly”.

5 Rounds for Time: 400m Run, 30 Box Jumps (20”), 30 Wall Balls (16lbs). Let me tell you something, it’s much harder than it looks, especially when your previous WOD was only mere hours before. That –ish took me 36 minutes to complete. I guess the real Kelly is 800m runs. Yikes. Nothing like throwing 2.5 miles in, as if 150 Box Jumps and 150 Wall Balls weren’t already enough. Oh wait, how could I possibly forget, there was also a farmer’s carry you did with a partner before any of that Kelly business even started. While you go 200m with kettlebells in your hands, your partner does max situps, then you switch. Did that twice.

I was SPENT after those two WODS in such a short period of time. I loved it.

They had fun swag. Reasonable drop-in fee of $20, or purchase something from a wall full of said swag. Would I go back again? Definitely.
